Gladys Ricart’s video depicts her brutal murder before her wedding. She was fatally shot in her living room as she prepared to leave for her ideal wedding and enter the church to wed James Preston Jr.
Investigators eventually discovered that Gladys was shot dead in cold blood while distributing bouquets to her bridesmaids when the murderer broke into her living room.
The terrible murder is depicted in “Primal Instinct: Red Wedding” on Investigation Discovery, which also demonstrates how authorities were eventually able to apprehend the perpetrator.
Gladys Ricart, a resident of Ridgefield, New Jersey, was ecstatic about her special day and could not wait to wed James Preston Jr., the love of her life.
Gladys Ricart, then 39, was getting ready to leave for the chapel on September 26, 1999, where she would get married.
She had already changed into her wedding dress and was in the process of giving her bridesmaids floral bouquets.
A late-forties man in a suit approached the front door amid the festivities and said he was there to wish Gladys. The family members let him in without giving it much thought.
The unidentified man shot the bride three times in front of all of her family members before Gladys even realized who he was. He reached into the briefcase he was holding and took a 38-caliber revolver out of it.
Gladys was shot three times before she fell to the ground, and those who saw the murder immediately called the police. First responders arrived at the Ricart home immediately, but the victim had already died.
She was found dead in a pool of blood on the living room floor, and an examination revealed that she had been shot. Interestingly, the attacker, Augustin Garcia, was detained immediately.
According to the show, Garcia was Gladys’ ex-boyfriend, but the two split up months before the murder when the bride-to-be discovered that her ex was having an extramarital affair.
Garcia, however, did not take the break up well and was furious that his ex was getting hitched so quickly. After becoming rabidly jealous, Garcia ruined Gladys’ big day.
However, because numerous witnesses identified Augustin Garcia as being at the scene of the crime, and because police had the murder weapon, they could make an arrest and charge Garcia with murder.
After being introduced in court, Augustin Garcia entered a not-guilty plea and stated that Gladys’ wedding ceremony temporarily sent him insane.
The jury, however, couldn’t come to a consensus and found Garcia guilty of first-degree murder. He was consequently given a life sentence in prison with a minimum of 30 years before being eligible for parole in 2002.
Garcia has attempted to overturn his conviction since being found guilty but in vain. As a result, he is still detained at the East Jersey State Prison in Woodbridge, New Jersey, and his parole eligibility date is 2029.
